Leap Year Day!

Happy Leap Year Day!
Leap Year from the early 1900s all the way up through the 60s was considered a time when women could propose to men! Albeit slightly sexist, these postcards produced in the first decade of the 1900s crack me up. I especially love this one in particular. How could I not! She's a giant redhead!

20 days until spring

It's so close I can taste it. 20 days until spring. By the looks of DC today, you'd think it was already here (what does that silly groundhog know anyway).
I'm all about mixing up pastels this season. In fact it's a pastel colorblocked wonderland in my closet. These would be welcome additions!

21 days until spring

21 days until spring, and I am absolutely ready.
This spring is gonna be all about cutesy dresses and rainbow pastels for me.
What about you?

This week in flowers

A little different twist on this week in photos, this week is all about the flowers in my house!

I wish I could claim that mine are cuts from my early springtime garden, alas, they aren't. I was however able to make a trip out to see Jane this Saturday and pick up some wax flowers and berries from her shop. It's always a joy to catch up with our friends at the shop and lest we not forget get some good ol' black lab love.

Some shots from the shop:
A quadruple bloom lily (sheesh, overachiever.)
A sweet little arrangement of roses, tulips, berries and billy balls...
hey wait, those are some of my favs, is that for me?
A miniature arrangement of painted billy balls.
and last but not least berries!

Do you love flowers too?
Hop on over to Small But Charming's blog and see what everyone else has in their house right now.

Jenny Packham: Pretty Peachy Perfection

Dear Jenny, I love you.

Okay, really, we've never met. But when I was trying to decide whether to buy a vintage wedding dress or a new one my bff Kristen said, "You HAVE to try on some Jenny Packhams. They are exactly the deco look you want." So off we went to a bridal salon and *sigh* I fell in love (With this specifically. It's a shame you can't see the back, that's what makes it so divine.) Unfortunately, Mr.Husband and I made a pact to not go into debt from our wedding, so it was either the Packham or the food. C'est la vie. Since that fateful day I've been a die hard Packham fan.

Today, when I was cruising the interwebs for some lingerie I stopped dead in my tracks!

Holy Amazeballs.

London: So what, I'm a nerd.

I think our plans to chunnel to London for the day from Paris may have been a tad overzealous...

We had tickets for the 10:30 show at the Crazy Horse in Paris (which was AMAaaaAAaaazing) When the show let out we ran to the Metro ran down the stairs only to see the last train of the night had just pulled away from the platform. It was 1:02am. Nuts. So back up the stairs out to the streets to find a taxi stand and wait in line. When it was all said and done we were back to our hotel room just a tad before 2. Our Eurostar to London was scheduled for 7:45. Of course I was too jazzed from the show to sleep right away, so this is what I looked like once we boarded. Lucky for me, we had business class tickets and were served a lovely breakfast and tea. Divine.

Ah, we made it. A little worse for wear, but arrived nonetheless. I am a tourist even in my own city and don't ever leave the house with out a film and digital camera stashed somewhere in my bag. Here's me with my Pink Dress SuperHeadz cam (courtesy FourCornerStore) being a super duper tourist. "look we're in King's Crossing! Let's find platform 9 3/4!"

Mr.Husband made me cross the street so he could take a picture of me in front of the Scotch Shop. Did I mention super duper tourist?

Let the nerd-fest begin. I am fascinated with Ancient civilizations, Egypt specifically.
The 18th dynasty to be even more specific.
We made the trip to London expressly so I could go to the British Museum.
Yup, nerd...fest.

Changing film one handed is not my forte.

6 brights, As you wish GVH

6 bright tights; Part 2 of GVH's styling request.

Okay really, it is the request, but I wanted to show her some patterns too,
hence yesterdays post... Anywhay...

GVH wanted some suggestions on bright tights to go with this uber cute ModCloth dress. With a dress as darling as this, it's hard to go wrong. All 6 colors are from American Apparel. Now normally my go to for tights would be We Love Colors, but in a pinch, when you don't have time to wait for the mail, American Apparel is a great resource. The tights are a good quality, the color range is pretty wide, and the price is reasonable (in relation to the quality).

Which color is your favorite?
I want them all of course, but seem to be leaning toward the softer look of the Burnt Sienna.

2 prints, As you wish GVH!

Stylist TKP (tall-katie-petix, it's a thing...) comin' at you from the request lines!
One of my favorite gingers (hi GVH!) in the whole wide world asked me to help her with styling this adorable dress from ModCloth for a wedding. With a dress as cute as this, it was a breeze. Here are my first 2 options, both utilizing tights with prints...

Tomorrow I'll tackle some bright solid tights.
Also just a reminder, I love hearing from you! I am happy to take all sorts of requests and put my spin on them. You can always feel free to email me (katie@today-i-want.com) or tweet at me (@katiepetix)!

this week in photos

This weeks flowers: My regular flowers that I pick up every Monday
and Valentine's arrangements delivered on Tuesday! So lovely!

And speaking of Valentine's Day, we had reservations at Al Tiramisu, our favorite restaurant! Chef Luigi, always the charmer, even came over to sprinkle rose petals on our table. So romantic.

and so delicious.

Wednesday I got a chance to go out to visit Kristen, and let's be completely honest, to visit her kitties (the adorabilibuddies) too. Here Bella, Peach, and Lil Man all go bananas over their favorite toy.

Lil Man being handsome in the sunshine.

It's always nice to come home to my little fuzzy one though. Here she is cuddling our favorite shoes.

Friday night date night at Roscoes! Mmmmm... Roasted Olives.....

Saturday was jam packed with school work, but I managed to make some time for records and have a little beauty store expedition. Love these temporary hair color bottles!

Once my assignments were finished (sort of...) we got to hangout with some of our besties Michelle and Donnie at our favorite Tex Mex restaurant Mi Rancho (I know I post a Mi Rancho margarita every week, but it's truly one of the highlights!) Also, decided to rock it old school with my spiderweb pendant and onyx star in preparation for Sunday night's "Come as you were" party. Can't wait to share those photos next week!

Dear Mother Nature, I'm so cold. Can't we just have some sunshine and 60 degree days for like, oh I dunno, for like 2 months straight? Pleeeease?
