Amethyst Geode Jewlery

I don't generally consider myself a big fan of amethyst, but I've always been a bit of a nut for natural stones. As a kid my parents would graciously accompany me to many a cavern to explore the stalactites and stalagmites in dank, cool, underground caves. Needless to say, when I came across OhKuol's amazing Etsy shop I was not surprised to be taken by the wide range (ahem 45 pages!) of jewels both natural and cut, but I was surprised that so very many that I liked are amethyst hued. Whodathunk? Also, something to note, I would not normally share so many different styles, but for serious, I want them all. Today. I want. Them all.

Happy Easter everyone! This Sunday's inspiration is all about pretty pastel purple. All the hues, and coincidentally flowers, from lavender to lilac to violet to crocus.

Candy Colored Hair

I get a lot of questions about my hair. I've often thought I should sit down and take some time to log exactly what I go through to get my hair these colors and to maintain them. Well I've not actually ever taken the time to do so, but fear not inquiring minds! The ever lovely Gala Darling has! While she doesn't cover the full gamut of bleaching, dying and maintenance (it's a LOT to cover), she does cover quite a bit. So here for you my loves a little linkiepoo to Gala's post on XO Jane:

Mani Monday

Last week one of my co-workers had a beautiful sophisticated subtle hue on her nails. So this week inspired by her, I'm donning "Eiffel For You". This hue by L'oreal is almost exactly in-between lavender and grey. Perfectly effeminate.

Mani Monday

For this weeks #manimonday: a colorful take on a french manicure. I *tried* to do it using hole reinforcements like I see so many people doing on Pinterest, but for the life of me I can't get it to work! The stickers just seem TOO sticky and pull off the nail polish. So I tried putting them on very very gently, and then it doesn't work because the polish leaks through. Oy Vey! Anyway in the end I'm just better at free handing it.

What's on your nails this week?
Have any of you successfully used hole reinforcements for manicures?

Weekend Casual

It's summer (okay technically it's still spring, but if you live in the DC area you know as well as me it might as well be summer). It's hot. Here's an alternative for the weekend: nice lightweight tee, some easy to move in cropped skinnies, and my summer shoe staple, sandal wedges! All via Gap/Piperlime

Colored Jeans

Colored jeans. You love 'em, I love 'em, a whole bunch of bloggers at the IFB conference love 'em, and it looks like for at least one more season these babies rein supreme. Here are four different retailers, with four different price points, and four different color pallets. Perfect to fit anyones pocketbook and style!

Tripp Skinny Jeans in Purple , Pink , Orange , Yellow , Green

A quick story...
I love Tripp. Back in the day, you couldn't just pick up a pair of Tripp pants in the mall like you can these now. I used to make the drive up to NYC to visit Jimmy (you can find pics of him on their blog HERE) at Trash and Vaudeville, where he would always try to squeeeeeze me into a smaller size of these super duper skin tight jeans. "Jimmy, there is no way I can squish this size 11 butt into a size 7." I shouldn't give him any crap though, he was always right, and would always one way or another get me into the tightest pants possible. While I highly recommend the experience of Jimmy and the fun of Trash and Vaudeville, lucky for you, you don't have to go to NYC anymore to pick up a pair. Hot Topic always has some online and as of right now, they are buy one get one 50% off.

Adventures in Shoe Stores

Just in case you ever want to do a photo shoot inspired by Barbie and the Rockers,
Off Broadway Shoes has you covered.

And now that I have your attention, here's my favorite shoe in the world.

This AK Sport ballet flat is literally what I live in most of the year. It retails for $49.99 at Off Broadway Shoes and comes in (*gasp*) 10.5 !!! If you don't wear a 10.5, you may not know how difficult it is to find shoes in a 10.5! Most shoes are manufactured in half sizes only through 9.5. I can most of the time get away with a 10 in a heel without being too uncomfortable, but in a flat, I must have a 10.5. Thank goodness for the few manufaturers who produce them!

And just for grins and giggles I tried on these other four pairs of shoes.
Which is your favorite?

adventures in Parisian dressing rooms H&M

No matter where in the world I am, I just can't seem to resist an H&M and Paris was no exception (nor was London or Amsterdam!) I had plenty to try on and the line for the dressing rooms was a little absurd, but I was determined to try on some of the Versace for H&M collection. One super cool thing about the H&M I went to in Paris was that they have a collective dressing room for women. If you want to avoid the line for a private room they just take you into a large open space that is curtained off. Normally I would have been all about it, I've got no issues undressing in front of other ladies, but in this case it was best I didn't. I can just imagine the outrage when I whip out my camera and start taking pictures in a room full of half naked strangers.

Unfortunately for us all though, the private dressing rooms had practically ZERO lighting. So out comes the flash... with a mirror... no good. These are the only images I could salvage.

I've seen this neon yellow skirt at bunches of H&M's and had resisted for as long as I could. In Paris I gave in. It's just lovely. Neeeeeon yellow. Yeah, neeeeeeeeeeon. The blouse I could give or take, not in love, but it fit well and was nice and silky.

Hellooooo Versace!
I was seriously gonna buy this dress. It fits. It's fringey. It's green. Problem was the fringe sleeves were already snagging and pulling out. If something is already falling apart and it hasn't even left the store, I just can't spend the money. And it wasn't cheap. Sad, but probably a good decision in the long run.

Va Va Vooooooom!

This Versace was fun too, but too small. It hugged me super tight, which in a way was killer bombshell, but I doubt I could sit down without bustin' a seam. But how about that neckline! I love that it is asymmetrical. Majorly sexy.

Did any of you check out the Versace collection? What did you think?

pricey purple

purple colorwheel

Seriously folks, this is why in the past I have stayed away from polyvore as a blogging tool. I'm just way too attracted to super super duper super expensive clothes. Case in point: Balmain gold and purple cocktail dress. In my defense, it is OVER half off right now... a totally reasonable $11,195.00 (!!!!!) (yeah, that IS the sale price)

Don't forget to check out all the colorwheel posts! G over at Tulle and Combat Boots has been doing daily round up of the participants, just shoot her a message if you wanna play too. :)
