Urban Decay - Electric Palette

I'm still having a grand time playing with Urban Decay's Electric Palette, so I decided to share a couple looks I created that are a little more subtle than my Rainbow Eyes from last week.

I started first by priming my lid with ud's Eyeshadow Primer Potion. I then brushed on a light sweep of Paradisco by MAC* across the lid. Next I lined my eye with NYX's Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk using a small angle brush. Then using a clean small angle brush I started at the inner corner of the lid with Savage transitioning to Jilted, Urban and finally Chaos. I did not clean my brush between transitions. After that, with a clean small angle brush I went back to the upper inner eyelid and applied a bit of Slowburn. I finished the look with NYX Voluptuous Lush Lash Mascara.

This cherry blossom inspired look started exactly the same as the look above. I started first by priming my lid with ud's Eyeshadow Primer Potion. I then brushed on a light sweep of Paradisco by MAC* across the lid. Next I lined my eye with NYX's Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk using a small angle brush. Then using a clean small angle brush I started at the inner corner of the lid with Slowburn. About halfway across the lid I transitioned to Savage and finally blended a small bit of Jilted in the outer corner. I did not clean my brush between transitions. I finished the look with NYX Voluptuous Lush Lash Mascara.

*MAC products are no longer cruelty free. Until this changes I will no longer purchase their products. Since, however, I have so much of their product still I will be using it until it is depleted.

So tell me, do you have the Electric Palette yet? I wanna know your thoughts! What do you like/dislike about it?

Cherry Blossom Pink - Sunday Inspiration

It's cherry blossom season here in DC and I'm feeling quite inspired by pink! Cherry blossom trees line the streets in my neighborhood, they are truly beautiful. Couldn't be more perfect timing, this winter was a tough one, it's lovely to have a reminder of why DC with all it's faults is actually a nice place to live.

Make sure to check out my blogger bff Tulle & Combat Boots Sunday Inspiration too!

Electric Palette - Urban Decay

When I turned 18, I got my first credit card at Nordstrom. This was a pretty exciting thing because not only did they carry size 11 shoes, but they also sold Urban Decay and Hard Candy Nail polishes. Be still my alt 90's heart!

Urban Decay seems to be best known for their Naked Palettes these days, but what I fell in love with them over was rad punk rock polish. Which in fact is why I am SO EXCITED to talk about this return to alternative with the Electric Palette! Sure, sure, they have had some bright colors in their single shadows and 24/7 liners, but this is a serious, in-your-face, crazy-color palette. Plus, ahem, it's CRUELTY FREE!

Obviously, I'm pretty stoked on this palette and my first go around I emulated VintageOrTacky's Rainbow eye. It's a little different since our eyes are shaped a bit differently, but if you want to give this look a try check out her video embedded below.

To really make these pressed pigments pop I started the look with NYX jumbo eye pencil in Milk all over the upper and lower lid. My look included: Chaos in the crease, Urban and Jilted Above the crease in the browbone area, Fringe on the lid. On the lower lid I gradated from Urban to Jilted to Slowburn, Thrash is on the tearduct. I put just a touch of Revolt in the little divot between my nose and lid. The black liner is 24/7 liquid liner in Perversion and the mascara is NYX Voluptuous LL04. For my brows I used MAC Sassy Grass eye shadow. All of the products I used are cruelty free except the MAC shadow*

*I used to be a die hard MAC user, but unfortunately they are no longer cruelty free. Until this changes I will no longer purchase their products. Since, however, I have so much of their product still I will be using it until it is depleted.

Old Navy Dress Sale!

I practically live in Old Navy wrap dresses at the office. They really are perfect for curvy gals like me and they come in tall! Bonus! In fact, I'm wearing one right now. They are 100% cotton and a bit on the thin side in terms of fabric quality. Not awfully so, but I always wear them with a slip and a camisole for modesty sake. 'Cause, I don't need to show of my bazoombas at work.

Ok guys, all that being said it's time to ACT FAST because Old Navy has 40% off all dresses TODAY ONLY! Use the code: "DRESS" at checkout. At prices like these, it's totally worth it to splurge. Plus spring is right around the corner! How adorable would you be in that little sweatshirt dress!? SUPER adorable.

flowers in the house, a blog hop!

Happy flowers in the house Monday friends! It's a pretty sad situation at Casa de Petix in the flower category right now, but it's winter. Whatcha gonna do.  I've got a table full of plants, none of which are currently... well flowering. Makes it a bit difficult to feature my "flowers in the house"! So here is what we have, The one mighty kalanchoe who is muscling through the winter and still blooming. Her blooms are a vibrant orangey pink that fade to a pale pink as they cycle through their life. Next up is a little cactus buddy. He's pretty, er... handsome? Nah, he's pretty. I have no idea what type of cactus he is or what he is called. I call him little cactus buddy. Down to my cut flowers. Pretty pastel pale pink, thingamabobs. You guys know what these are I'm sure, maybe you can tell me? I know Jane can, since I picked them up at her flower shop. For now I'll just call them pretties. And now.... the piece de resistance.... my table full of non-blooming bloomers. Well except for the newest resident Mr. Frosty Fern. He's a non-bloomer from Trader Joes. Moving right along, we've got the Christmas cactus that is 2 years old and has never bloomed. The kalanchoe which I bought in a teeny tiny 1 inch pot that grows up up up but decided it doesn't need no stinkin' flowers. The orchid which had blooms when I bought it, but now just has leaves and a stick. The leaves are growing bigger though, that means it's still alive right? Next up the african violet and the other african violet. Yeah, they aren't blooming either. And bringing the table to a close, two more non blooming kalanchoes. It's okay though, I'm just happy I've kept them all alive. I really have no idea what I'm doing, I just water them and hope for the best. Thanks for taking a moment to tour my flowers. Looking forward to seeing all the other Flowers in the house posts. And big thanks to Jane for coordinating us all again! Be sure to hop over to her blog and see what everyone else has in their homes: Small but Charmingxoxox kat
