The Royal Wedding

Allo Allo! Coming to you from the other side of the pond at The Royal Wedding. I'm so excited to attend and more excited to wear this lovely Viv Westwood dress.

What? A girl can dream, right?

Anyone wearing special ensembles or hats today in honor of the occasion? Do tell!

one block of DC

Here's another block of my walk to work in picturesque DC!

stripes and coral

I don't do preppy. It's just not for me. That being said when I came across this top I had the sudden urge to create a "Today I Want style" preppy ensemble. How'd I do? You like?

oh for flips sake...

I am supposed to be saving money. It's like Piperlime is some circle of hell, hundreds of stylish shoes and I can use my GapCard!? Ugh. (Don't worry PL, I truly love you. You dirty little devil you...)

Wedges, my biggest weakness. My serpent with an apple. I want them all.
I like apples. And snakeskin shoes...

who wears short shorts?

I don't wear short shorts, well not anymore. Let's just say I've had my time for inappropriately short shorts and don't plan on going back. But this year alongside with all the super micro shorts are some more demure yet totally young and fashionable lengths (hooray!) I really like the length of this pair by Forever21 and I've bought some cuffed shorts from Gap in a pretty blush color that are loose enough to go with fitted tops, but not so loose that I couldn't wear it with a more billowy top.
Very versatile; Excellent with heels.

the great gatsby

As is typical of DC, we've made a sudden transition right past spring and full on into summer. I guess that is what happens when you build a city over swamplands. Not prepared for the change (as usual!) we have yet to get our air conditioners out of storage. Miss Audrey Superkitty and I have been lazing around the house today, her in her fur coat and me in a vintage slip, doing our absolute best to function in the unexpected/expected heat. Who knows why it popped in my head, but this morning while catching up on some of the blogs I follow I caught myself thinking of the beginning of The Great Gatsby where Daisy and Jordan are lounging on couches, "They were both in white, and their dresses were rippling and fluttering as if they had just been blown back in after a short flight around the house."

shoe designers, walks to work, and floral arrangements

I kinda super love these shoes. Okay, I really super love these shoes.
My partner in merchandising crime (okay maybe partner isn't quite right, more like boss. semantics...) Rod Glover got to playing on the Keds Website designing his own shoes. You can customize so many things, it's almost overwhelming, and a total time suck. No really, go play with it, 2 hours gone in the blink of an eye! Anyway Rod uploaded one of his paintings to put on the shoes and picked some great coordinating colors to really make everything POP!
Oh yeah, did I mention that he's a fabulous artist for real?
See his work HERE!

I've seen lots of local bloggers going image crazy with the Cherry Blossoms. While they are truly beautiful, I thought I'd show you what else in DC is photo worthy. This is just 4 shots of one block of my walk to work. Literally the whole walk is B.E.A.uuuuutiful.
Almost every house has one thing or another blooming all spring and summer.
Even the houses with over grown grass are full of flowering "weeds"

Last weekend while shopping for groceries these technocolor flowers were shouting at me. So in order to appease them I brought them home and arranged them in a little blue pot, which somehow I was able to completely hide in these shots. Sorry about that little blue buddy!

Looking forward to a nice chill weekend with Mr.Husband. What's on your agenda?

i'm cute, i can't help it.

Mr.Husband calls me cute. I hate to be called cute. Alas, it is something I have grown to accept.
I'm cute, I can't help it, and it's ooookaaaaaaay.
Spring seems to have officially sprung here in DC with days consistently above 50 degrees. The change in weather has triggered some dormant cute virus slumbering in my soul.

In my soooooouuuuuuuul!!!! Muuuahhh ha ha ha haaaaaa!!!

Woah.

Anyway, spring sunshine, blooming flowers, and singing birds make me want to don my frilliest floweriest bow-adorned garments, from my head all the way to my toes.

Oiseaux

The Brilliant Designer at Milkmaid Press came up with a lovely new set for spring 2011, Oiseaux! All Things Lovely posted some fab-tastic inspiration boards this morning and I just had to follow suit. I'm kind of obsessed with all things bird. Here's what I found online today...

If I were to go to church on Easter Sunday, I think I'd wear some reeeeeediculously large hat.
Also, I want someone to have a cookout.

Today I Wore

On a very windy afternoon Mr.Husband attempted to take some photos of me and what I wore. The attempts were futile. The windy wind did not want me to post this outfit! Only 5 (semi)successful shots were achieved so here they are. In all the other photos my shirt was over my head.

Check out my sexy giggle chin.
I bet you didn't know I was hiding a double chin behind my stoic model face.

Adventures in Dressing Rooms

It's not often I have a day off and can leisurely shop in a mall, so when I do I take full advantage of it! Friday I had no plans for the morning so I drove on out to The Fashion Center at Pentagon City, Wheeeeee!!! Here are some cellphone shots of stuff I tried on.

This dress was super fun with all kinds of fluffy rufflies on the skirt. Unfortunately for me though the gathering around the armholes made me look ultra mega broad.
Football style. Not so hot.

This top (is not online, but this is the same material) was a super sad disappointment. On the hanger it was divine! Such a pretty pale pink hue and the print! I'm a sucker for anything bird. Buuut, it was so confusing, what I thought was a light loose top had all sorts of confusing bells and whistles. Ties on the shoulders (I think, they weren't tied on the hanger. What else would a random piece of fabric underneath a shoulder strap be?) a very unflattering twisty thing on the front, and a drawstring at the bottom.
I was sad... and confused...

I've been seeing more and more of this "show your tummy" action. I can't do it. Maybe it's because I'm too old. It makes me feel like a tart-liscious hillbilly. Plus this shirt is totes see through. Although, had I thought to pair it with a fitted dress like they did, maybe I would have felt differently.

I really liked this shirt, funny though, in this picture it looks like I've got creepy gray nipples. I promise, I don't. I decided against it because I just didn't like the way it looked with dark pants. Maybe it would work well with a fitted peachy pale fitted skirt?

Aaaaand, Finally! We have a winner!

I promise to take better pictures of these for a future Today I Wore post!

After Macy's I was off to Forever21...
I bought this lovely lacy dress. I especially liked that the shell of the dress is peach, not nude. Forever21 says it's orange, it's not. It's definately peach. Regardless, the color really helps the pretty design on the lace stand out. Aaaand (bonus!) the length is great for me. Hip hip hooray for ladylike lengths!

And the Grand Finale! THIS is the dress I wanted to feature a while back and couldn't find online at Forever21. Well it's still not online, but it was in the store, TA DA!
Imagine my sadness that this was the last one in the whole store, and it is an XS. Le Sigh. I know you're probablly thinking, either
a) "Holy schnikies! How did she squeeze into an XS!?"
or b) "What's the problem? Looks like it fits to me..."
And in response to that I give you picture #2 of this darling dress...
It's a no go. I'm just too tall for the XS. And on top of that there is a big makeup smudge on the front. How sad... I do apparently have a nice lil' set-up though.

Thoughts? Opinions? Questions? Let me have it!

joojooland on Etsy

I love finding super cool designers on Etsy! Last night whilst browsing earrings I came across joojooland and totally fell in love. I especially die for the frosted raspberry earrings!
So. Effin. Cute.

What are your favorite joojooland items?

All day mall day

Every once in a while, when I have a weekday off with noooothing else to do, and it's just a little (or alot) too gloomy to be outside, I like to drive out to Tysons Corner and leisurely shop all day! It's so nice to have some alone time and take my time browsing stores I wouldn't normally go in, try on things I wouldn't normally try on, and eat sushi off a conveyor belt. On these days, it's important for me to put together an outfit that is stylish yet comfortable enough to be walking all day!

This head to toe Anthropologie ensemble would be perfect for an all day mall day.
What do you wear when you have an all day mall day??
All day mall day. All day mall day. All day mall day. Aaaaallllll day mall day.
It's so fun to say, it needs its own song. Fear not, I'll work on it.

As You Wish!

Did you know I take requests? Happily! I love a good fashion challenge, so feel free to send styling inquires to me! I may not be able to get to it right away, but I promise if I can't blog about I will at least share my thoughts and ideas via email. Email me at KatiePetix@gmail.com

Shelly found this adorable, bright and tasty necklace on etsy and wanted some input on what to pair it with. If you really want to make this necklace shine you need to pair it with complimentary solids, it would just get lost with a print.
Here's what I think...

Outfit #1
A Casual Weekend

Outfit #2
Dinner and Drinks After Work

Outfit #3
 Sunday Brunch

The best part about these three outfits? They are totally mix and match!
Hope this helps you Shelly!

i love lady ties

I don't know that that is technically what they are referred too, but man oh man do I love a lady tie. It's been at least three seasons now where I just can't get enough of them, especially when they are silky sheer blouses like this one. Throw in a pair of cropped and rolled jeans and voila! instantly chic ensemble. Plus toooootally comfortable! I prefer the skinny version myself, but rolled cropped boyfriend jeans are all over the place this spring.

What do you guys think about the "boyfriend" trend?

If you opt for the looser style I'd recommend going for a heel or wedge instead of a flat though so that it doesn't make you look too stumpy. Unless that's the look you're going for, and in that case
"Rock on you stumpy rocker!"

Hip Hip Hooray for super stylish AND comfortable!

Today I Wore...

Just some quick pictures of what I wore to work on Saturday.
Don't mind the Laundry Monster behind me, it only attacks when provoked.
